‘FOLK LIKE US’ is an invocation of community and hope in the face of impending catastrophes, breaches of our collective humanity, and the fear that is driving communities apart and polarising societies.
Responding to this moment in history, ‘FOLK LIKE US’ asks what might happen when an inter-generational group of performers and musicians coalesce in a moment of shared rhythm.
Blending contemporary theatre, folkloric imagery, story, dance, live music, and spectacle, this is a ritual of rhythm, awe, and togetherness in a fractured world. Blurring the boundary between performer, musician and spectator, ‘FOLK LIKE US’ seeks to conjure a moment of connection and transformation, inviting community and audience into a world where images, history, and possibility collide.
Working with composer, Jasmin Kent Rodgman (Manchester Collective), Jennifer is exploring the intersections that exist between theatre, contemporary classical music, dance, older folk forms, participation, and contemporary performance practice. Bringing Bolivian and English folklore together, the audience will experience storytelling, live music, and thrilling theatrical moments.
Inspired by the research of the academic, Dacher Keltner (Awe: The Transformative Power of Everyday Wonder); FOLK LIKE US seeks to conjure a moment of awe, connection and transformation, where image and music collide in a hybridity of form and joyful spectacle.
