as we run we become

a small radical act of solidarity in a public space.

a one-to-one running encounter with a woman Jennifer has never met before.

Get your running shoes on…

Part theatre. Part conversation. Part exercise. Part smashing the patriarchy.

This outdoor performance takes the form of a run, walk, or journey through public space.

'As we run we become', emerged as part of the research and creation process for Endurance, and has been performed at HOME Mcr, Battersea Arts Centre, Oxford Playhouse (Offbeat Festival), ARC Stockton, and for the Sociological Review 2024 Undisciplining II Conference.

Whilst you travel, she will chat about your experiences of exercising and moving through public spaces. Jenni may record your experiences of running, but this isn’t a pre-requisite for signing up. Post run/show you will cool down over a civilised cup of tea at the venue.

Space is not innate and inert, it is the medium in which we carry out the rituals of our daily lives. Taking up space is bold move- it requires guts, and vulnerability and a leap of faith. Going for a run, is never simply ‘going for a run’, it’s a loaded act. This work has been presented alongside ‘ENDURANCE’, or as a standalone work.

Running time approx 40 mins.

The practice is also documented online through the instagram account @aswerunwebecome
